What is Program Subsidy Upah (PSU), PSU 2.0 and PSU 3.0 ?

PSU 1.0, PSU 2.0 and PSU 3.0 are paid financial assistance to the employer of each enterprise for each local employee who earning RM4,000 and below.

What is PSU 3.0 ?

PSU3.0 is specifically targeted at the tourism and retail sectors under the 2021 Budget as well as all sectors in the states involved with PKP from 19 January 2021 under the Malaysian Economic and Citizen Protection Assistance Package (PERMAI). PSU 3.0 also called as Wage Subsidy Programme 3.0 (WSP 3.0).

Under the PSU 3.0, all sectors excluding retail and tourism, are eligible to receive a wage subsidy of RM600 for each employee earning less than RM4,000 per month. Government has also raised the limit of 200 employers per application to 500 employees, of which 250,000 employers employing more than 2.6 million employees are expected to benefit from this initiative.

For those who lost their jobs due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Socso announced the Job Seeking Allowance (JSA) has been improved and extended through the SIP Prihatin Programme under Budget 2021. Under the new relaxed conditions of the JSA, employees who do not meet the minimum qualifying contribution, or whose contract was not extended after having been renewed for at least three times previously, are now eligible to apply for assistance of a maximum of 30% of their salary for three months.

It is also apply to delivery riders as well, who are also at the front line during the MCO, to immediately register under the SPS Lindung for protection in the event of a work-related accident. Government provides full contributions for them for one year through Plan 2 of the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme as protection against occupation-related injuries.

Socso also said that the COVID-19 Screening Programme for Registered Foreign Workers will also continue, where the cost of supplying test kits will be fully borne by Socso in the targeted high-risk zones to identify COVID-19 clusters in the workplace. There is only 18% of foreign workers registered with Socso have undergone COVID-19 screening tests under the programme.

In conclusion, Socso urged employers who have yet to send their foreign workers to undergo COVID-19 screening tests to immediately make an appointment with the clinics involved in the programme.
